About Spine Surgery

Spinal disorder is common heard in Herniated Disc, Spondylolisthesis, Spinal stenosis and Spinal Fracture with osteoporosis or age related. It causes pain, movement limitation and numbness sensation. Dr. Kao is an experienced spinal surgeon and specialized in microsurgery such as Cervical Artificial Disc Replacement, Anterior Cervical Decompression (Microdiscectomy) Surgery, Interbody Fusion Cage or/and Fixation ,Microdiscectomy with implant such as Dynamic stabilization system and Vertebroplasty for osteoporosis. He also does Radiofrequency Therapy (RF) for noninvasive treatment.

Dr. Kao leads our spinal surgical team offers comprehensive neurologic and physical treatment and rehabilitation program based on you spinal condition.

Artificial Disc Replacement

Artificial Disc Replacement is surgery that places a cushion between the vertebrae in neck, spinal column. Artificial disc replacement is a safe and a long-lasting surgical option.

Microdecompression or Microdiscectomy Surgery

Microdiscectomy or Microdecompression is a type of minimally-invasive spine surgery to decompress the nerve root(s) and spinal cord for patients who are suffering from Disc Degeneration, Herniation or Spinal Stenosis. The benefits of Microdiscectomy and Microdecompression are small incision, less tissue disruption, less blood loss, and quicker recovery. It can be cervical and lumbar spinal column, anterior or posterior approach depends on patient’s condition.

Interbody Fusion Cage

An interbody fusion cage (known as a "spine cage") is a prosthesis in spinal fusion procedures. The cage is used to restore lost disc height resulting from a collapsed disc and to relieve pressure on nerve roots.

Vertebroplasty

Vertebroplasty involves inserting a glue-like material into the center of the collapsed spinal vertebra in order to stabilize and strengthen the crushed bone. The glue (methylmethacrylate) is inserted with a needle and syringe via anesthetized skin. Once inserted, the glue soon hardens, forming a cast-like structure with the locally broken bone. It usually uses for elderly who has osteoporosis with bone fracture.

Non-surgical Option

Radiofrequency Therapy (RF)

Radiofrequency Therapy utilizes radiofrequency electricity to produce heat in order to melt away nerves or other tissues. It is uses in patient who has pain related to the degeneration of joints from arthritis, chronic neck or lower back pain and do not want to do the operation.
