Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

  • Mr. Zhang, 65 years old, an overseas Chinese in Indonesia. He had severe knee pain over a year and accepted his friend’s advice to visit JJOH Orthopedic Department in September of 2016. After X ray inspection, Dean Dr. Wu discovered that his knee bone has been seriously worn out. Dr. Wu suggested in his outpatient appointment that Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy can help tissue reconstruction and regeneration. Before medical visit, Mr. Zhang was very worried and after hearing Dr. Zhang’s diagnosis, he was happy to know that surgery can be avoided. However, he was upset that an injection was the next approach. Will it be hurtful if a needle punch on my knee? Although his mind was still in the edge of hesitation, he already decided tomorrow to have PRP therapy. Next day he came to hospital with annoyance and uneasiness. The procedure of blood testing was rapid. Dr. Wu took a high concentration of blood platelet. When he explained to Mr. Zhang, a quick shoot of injection was taken place. It was not as horrible as what he had imagined! After therapy, not a slight sense of pain appeared except a little swollen feeling occurred. Mr. Zhang walked easily as usual. As a result, PRP therapy was fantastic to Mr. Zhang whose homing trip was imminent.
